Transportation and Infrastructure
Increased investment in transportation infrastructure has far-reaching effects on our nation's economy, our competitiveness in the world marketplace, and the quality of life in our communities. On a daily basis, hard working Americans and businesses will benefit from such investment through shortened travel time, increased productivity, and improved safety.
Throughout our nation's history, economic growth, prosperity, and opportunity have followed investments in the nation's infrastructure. For example, from 1980 to 1991, almost one-fifth of the increase in productivity in the U.S. economy was attributable to investment in highways. Mississippi's highways, rail systems, canals, locks, and roads are a vital part of our economy. This critical infrastructure is responsible for employing thousands of people and ensuring the movement of residents and goods. I am committed to seeing that North Mississippi has both a safe and efficient transportation system.
