Congressman Childers Urges Swift Action by USDA, Governors’ Office in Providing Disaster Relief to North Mississippi Farmers
Washington, DC – Congressman Travis Childers (MS-01) today urged both the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the State of Mississippi to act swiftly in gathering information necessary to provide farmers with much-needed disaster relief. In letters to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack and Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour, Congressman Childers stated the urgency and importance of designating counties in Mississippi as agricultural disaster areas in order to make assistance available as quickly as possible.
Congressman Childers Supports U.S. Troops, Military Families in Final Defense Authorization Bill
Washington, DC – Congressman Travis Childers (MS-01) today voted for final legislation to protect our troops, improve readiness, and increase benefits for military families. The bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 2647) strengthens our nation’s defense programs and supports military families through increased benefits, including a pay raise for service members and the prevention of TRICARE payment increases. It also includes funding for defense projects that will promote economic development in Mississippi.
Congressman Childers Announces $17.5 Million in Recovery Act Funding for Lowndes County Water Infrastructure
Washington, DC – Congressman Travis Childers (MS-01) today announced a $17.5 million grant to the Lowndes County Industrial Development Authority for important water infrastructure projects. This grant was funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
